She's a hurricane in disguise. Dangerous. Forbidden.

I fell for a woman for the first time in my life. I never thought the winds of Montana could carry in a storm like Isha George. She's stunningly beautiful. Years younger than me. Definitely a gold digger. She's charming, elegant, and she's my younger brother's girlfriend.

When Isha sweeps into my life, I’m sure she’s a tempest hiding behind a smile as bright as sunshine. And, she has her eyes on the prize - a piece of the Ledger Ranch. My ranch.

So, I do what any good brother and ranch owner would. I steal her away and then proceed to break her heart.

Now six years later, I see her again. We've both grown up, but one thing hasn't changed. I still want her, more desperately than I ever did before. And if there’s the one thing I learned during our time apart, it’s that I'm in love with her even more than I was. I always have been. I always will be. But will she ever forgive me for what I did?

Liz's Review

The Sweetest Taboo by Maya Alden is part of the author’s A Modern Vintage Romance that brings you back to the nostalgia of Harlequin and Mills & Boon romances from years past and was just that. I am a huge fan of Harlequin romances and read them to this day and this had all those vibes and loved it. Per the author, each book is a standalone with a modern twist. This one brought us a fake boyfriend’s brother, she falls first, he falls harder, angst and grovel. Oh, the grovel! It was everything. Isha was an orphan from London who grew up with trauma and feeling alone. She had her friend who was always there for her and was trying to find her way. She was both vulnerable and determined and I loved her so much. She had a plan but when she has an opportunity to visit the states with someone she thought was a friend, she figured why not.

Then she meets his brother and everything changes. Caught in lies and unexpected chemistry, she is drawn to one brother while pretending to be the other’s girlfriend. What she never expected was to feel so deeply and find the one for her. One who could break her. Rowan is Ace’s older brother and always has his best interest at heart. He had the wrong ideas of Isha and even so, was drawn to her in every way. He wanted her, but also wanted to destroy her and in the end, his choices destroy them. Now years later, he knows he was wrong and all he wants is to have her back, but is it too late? I love how strong and determined Rowan was, but also willing to admit his mistakes and make changes. Once she was back in his life, she was his world and would do anything for her. I loved how he was with Flora, her daughter and put them first. Their journey was heartbreaking at times, but it was also heartfelt, emotional and I devoured it. I am loving reading this author’s story and am excited to read more.
