I fell in love with my best friend but he didn't love me back.
Sounds like a cheesy line from a country song, right? Too bad it's the story of my life.
I thought that I’d moved on, swore he was the one.
But that facade began to fade in the flash of a half-carat diamond ring.
Now years later, here I am, running back to the boy who broke my adolescent heart, hoping that just maybe, he’ll be the one to piece it back together.
....
I fell in love with my best friend while she fell in love with him.
Ironically, it was my own damn fault. I practically served her up on a silver platter.
So I turned to my second love, basketball, moving across the country to escape.
For years, I’ve been sitting on the sidelines watching, waiting. Now it's time to make my move.
No more fouling out.
This time, I'm going to score.
Breakaway by Heather M. Orgeron was such a nice surprise for me. This is a new to me author, but once I read the blurb; I knew I wanted to read this. It was fun, sexy, sweet, heartbreaking and emotional and I loved it!
At the start, we see Colt and Alexis as best friends and how they have shared so much over the years and how much they mean to each other over the coming years. Their connection has been strong and though Alexis realizes early on her feelings for Colt are changing, she does not believe Colt feels the same. So instead of being together, they have seen each other with other people throughout all these years.
What kept them apart so long? They are afraid to lose what they have for something unknown. But how long can two people really fight what has always been in front of them? When faced with a life-changing choice, Alexis decides to find out once and for all where she stands with Colt.
Colt and Alexis’ journey is not an easy one. They face a lot of challenges, but mainly it really is just the two of them getting in each other’s way. Overall, Breakaway was a story about love and friendship. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but it was also sweet and sexy. I loved the characters, even as they drove me crazy, their friends and the story.
