When the NFL goes on strike, Super Bowl champion Peyton O'Rourke ends up back in his hometown as a substitute teacher and high school football coach.
The one thing he didn't count on?
Maddy Cooper being newly single.
She's the hot girl next door type.
Literally. She's literally the cute girl next door and his best friend's (now ex) girl.
And even though he knows he should be with anyone other than Maddy Cooper --
Well you know the drill.
Things are going to get hot. Heavy.
Does Facebook still have an 'It's complicated' button?
Because it's about to go down.

Mickey Miller and a sports romance? Sign me right up! The Substitute by Mickey Miller is a story about a football player and the girl next door. Peyton and Maddy were friends before he left to follow his dreams. When the NFL goes on strike, Peyton, a football player and Super Bowl champion, finds himself back in his hometown working as a substitute teaser and football coach biding his time and helping his grandma.

Maddy is literally the girl next door and a fellow teacher. She is adorable and sweet and the last woman he should set his sights on. There is a bit of history there and a whole lot of chemistry. Peyton and Maddy have  great banter and a lot of push and pull. Theirs is a slow burn romance with all the best feels. The Substitute by Mickey Miller was a fun, sexy and sweet friends-to-lovers story.
