You know the universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting run over by a semi, and running into the one who got away.
Why do they say it like that anyway?
Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my best friend and left me.
The day after I proposed.
We were eighteen.
I wanted forever.
She didn't.
It's been ten years.
I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe, is to gain closure with the one woman I can't forget.
So I do it.
I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girl's window, and getting threatened at gunpoint by her father.
To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant understatement.
I just hope I survive the message.
And then, I hope I survive her—again.

The Consequence of Rejection by Rachel Van Dyken
Publication Date: March 26th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

The Consequences of Rejection by Rachel Van Dyken is the fourth book in her Consequence series, however, the first book I have read in the series. Though this could be read as a standalone, as I did, there seems to be a lot of history between these characters.

Jason Caro lost the woman he loved ten years ago. When she left right after he proposed, with his best friend. For ten years he has tried to move on, but nothing ever seemed quite right. When he finally tries to move forward with his life, his now best friend tells him he needs closure if he ever wants to move on. Sounds easy, right?

Maddy loved Jason. She truly did, but felt things were moving too fast and instead of trusting and confiding in him, she ran. Now she would do anything to win him back but knows it would be nearly impossible after everything that happened between them.

Jason seemed to have no luck at all. It seemed if the worst possible thing could happen, it would, over-and-over. I felt so bad for the guy. He was heartbroken and struggling, but underneath all that, he was strong, caring and so very likable. I just wanted to give him a hug throughout the entire book! Maddy on the other hand, grew on me. Her choices were not always the best, but sometimes you must make wrong ones to find the right ones.

Jason and Maddy have such strong chemistry but could also be explosive. With so much history, how can you not! But Jason’s friends, they were everything. They may not have helped in the best way possible, but they had very good intentions. I truly loved the characters in this book and am looking forward to going back and reading every book in this series! This second chance romance was funny, sad, heartwarming and I loved it!
