What makes you happy?

That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.

And then, I got in his car.

It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.

We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers.

One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.

Discovering his journal changed everything.

I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.

I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.

Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

On the Way to You, an all-new emotional standalone from Kandi Steiner is LIVE!

I have only recently found Kandi Steiner and already love her books. But her newest release, On the Way to You touched my heart in so many ways. This one really hit close to home for me. I felt this story rather than just read it.

Cooper Owens has always dreamed of leaving the trailer park that has been her home in Alabama. Her dream is to attend a school in Washington State. She has worked hard and saved money to be able to do this all on her own. Her parents offer her no support. I loved Cooper. She faced a devastating loss at such a young age, but still she was optimistic and full of hope and determination.

One day a gorgeous man stops by the diner where she works and asks her question that leaves her unnerved. She opens up to him and tells him her dream of going to Washington. She learns Emory is also heading there and he offers her the opportunity to go there with him. Grabbing what she can, she takes a chance and follows her dream.

Emery Reed was a complex character. He will touch your heart. I know he did mine. I also believe this was personal because I love someone who suffers from depression. It is not easy to deal with and some days are harder than others. Kandi gave us a real, honest and raw look at depression and how it affects not only the affected person, but also those around them.

Cooper and Emery are complete opposites. She is the sun to his dark. But as they drive across the country, they find something in each other. But Cooper begins to see a side of Emory she does not understands, but wants too. She betrays his trust to better understand him. Their journey is not easy, but is one that will captivate you.

This story was beautiful and sad. It was a journey of discovery, hope and love. I was drawn in by the characters and the story in a way that touched me deeply. It was a very emotional story, but an honest depiction. You will get lost in this story!

About Kandi Steiner

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.
